Where Are You Walking?

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

When is the last time you read Romans 8?  If it has been a while, I urge you to open your Bible now and read it as if Paul is sitting and having a conversation with you.  Don't pay attention to the breaks in the verses, but read it fluidly.

I have been mulling over the thought of why we are so easily and often defeated in our Christian lives.  I have a LOT of theories, but one that I want to blog about today is giving place to the devil.

If indeed you are saved, then you are told to walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

In Romans 8 we find that there is life to be found if we are "spiritually minded" and that the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  He is able to quicken us (make us alive) because He dwells in us.

We forget that He dwells in us.  We forget He is able to help us walk in and after Him.  We get afraid when we look at our human, fleshly limitations.

Do you remember when Rabshakeh came up against Jerusalem and threatens them about who they should and should not trust?

Isaiah 36:13-15 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria. Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you. Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

He was trying to scare God's people.  And you know what?  Satan has not changed tactics today in 2015.  He still accuses the brethren and he still tries to get us to NOT trust in God.  But let me tell you something.  If you are walking in the Spirit and keeping your heart right with Him, He is inside you interceding for you to God.

God comes along and tries our hearts and the Holy Spirit tells Him what we really need.  He knows all of our fears, anxieties and wonderings.  He then tells God what we really need, not what we THINK we need.  Sometimes we think we need more money, more friends, a better husband, more obedient children, a better church, a nicer car, a day to ourselves, but the Holy Spirit, in order to complete the promise in Romans 8:28 of all things working together for good, tells God what really needs to happen in our lives.

And not only does the Holy Spirit intercede, but down in verse 34, we find Jesus Christ is at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us!  Then we are given some of the most beautiful words in Scripture.....that NOTHING can separate us from the love of Christ!

So, who is it hollering and trying to condemn you today at the gates of your life?  "Who is he that condemneth?" (vs 34)    The Bible gives us these following promises to counter attack the enemy:

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

and they are based on the very first verse:

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

So, my question to you today is:  Are you walking after the Spirit?  Are you seeking Him in the Scripture?  Are you talking to Him in your prayer closet?

If you only have tears, hey, He understands them!

The moment we get too afraid and listening to that enemy yelling at us that we aren't worthy, good enough, spiritual enough or "known", that is when we will start looking towards our flesh and walking after it instead of claiming the promises of God for His children.  So walk after the Spirit today, and tomorrow and every day afterward until we get to see Him face to face!

Shut the enemy down this weekend....not in your own power, but by relying on God.

Until next time, Lord willing,
Sheri
