Stop! Pray!

Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

After telling us how to put on the whole armour of God, Paul admonishes us to pray in the Spirit.  Why?  Because prayer is where the battles are fought and won.  I like what one preacher friend of ours said in a sermon, “Stop talking to people, and start talking to God!” Dr. Darrell Moore was a professor of mine in college. Right now he is in a trial of his own concerning his health, but do you know, he wrote Mark and me and told us he is praying….FOR US.  Why?  Because he is practicing what he preaches.  He knows that prayer is where things happen and even while praying for others, he will too will be encouraged.

I believe we need to pray more.  We need to stop turning on the radio and filling our hearts with the world’s advice.  We need to sit in silence and lift our hearts to God.  We need to stop talking to people about our problems and talk to God more.

Just think about it.  The most powerful, wonderful and intelligent Being, Our Creator and God, has asked you to come boldly to HIS throne and talk to HIM about your life.  He, Who is in control, has offered HIS ear to be bent to your petitions if you will come to Him in Spirit and in Truth.  Seeking to speak in honesty about Him and in light of your sin.

Humble yourself, bow down and go to God about your life.  Ask Him to fix and mold what is broken and beg Him to destroy those strongholds in your life that are preventing you from seeing REAL victory.  These repetitive choruses sung in churches all over the world will lull you into believing that everything is going to be fine and you may get a temporary “fix”, but the true solution is in humble supplications made to God with an earnest desire in your heart for Him to truly have His will and His way.  Not just sing it.

Pray.  Stop talking and thinking about it all.  Just pray.

Until next time, Lord willing,

Sheri
