1 Chronicles
28:9 And thou, Solomon
my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and
with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all
the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee;
but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
Luke 12:34 For where your treasure is, there will
your heart be also.
In much of my
studying of who God is, I have noticed that He is a God with specific
desires. And one of those desires is our
hearts. Since the foundations of the
world (Eph 1:3-5) God has done His part to make a way for our hearts to be like
His. He has given us Salvation, freely,
without prejudice and He wants us to live in that freedom….FOR HIM. He wants our hearts. He wants YOUR heart.
Which kid were
you in grade school? Were you the one
that always got chosen last on the playground for game time? Or were you the one who did the
choosing? Each of you just went back to
a specific moment in your lives and remembered either a painful moment or a
funny one. Did you know that with God,
you are always the first chosen? You are
important to Him and have been since the beginning. When you accepted His favor and joined up
with His plans, you gave Him your heart, right?
Well, why are you wanting to always take it back and give it away to
something else? Is there a better team
than God’s? No, there sure isn’t.
On God’s team,
you are on the winning team. The
undefeated team. The team that nothing
formed against it can stand. You have
the ultimate Captain whose strategies are perfectly formulated and acted
out. So, why is it that you and I want
to develop our own game plan? Are we
smarter than our Creator?
God wants our
head in the game. He wants us to give
Him all of our hearts so that we don’t get tangled up in a mess. It isn’t that He is selfish, it is just that
He knows the lies our sinful nature will tell us and He wants to keep us from
harm. My mom always says, “People don’t
know, what they don’t know”. This is so
true. We don’t have the view that God
does and He sees how our temporary actions will affect our future. We don’t know what we don’t know! But God does, and He wants our hearts. There is nothing desirable about sinful man,
but it is God’s intrinsic nature to love us and want to guide us in His plans.
My next post is exactly that.......God being our Guide.
First, though, we need to give Him our hearts, all of it, and trust Him
with our lives. If there is something holding you back from God having that
full control over your heart, ask Him to help you do what you need to do in
order to surrender to Him again. Not
your salvation..... that is once and it is complete. I am talking about letting Him be the
One who lives through you and NOT allowing your flesh to take control. That is a daily process, but a process
that should be a habit with us as Christians.
Give Him your heart.
Until next time,
Lord willing,
Sheri
